It lies in the basin of the Lužnice River. Thanks to its vast wealth of water sources it has earned the appellations ‘a town of lakes’ for Třeboň and ‘a landscape of mirrors’ for the Třeboň basin. The area has many artificial lakes, and, since the Middle Ages, a freshwater fishing economy has been developed, chiefly with carp. The largest fishpond was named after the Rožmberk family, who founded Třeboň’s Augustinian monastery and promoted fish breeding. The town and its environs passed to the Schwarzenbergs, a powerful Austrian noble family, in 1660.

The spa, the renaissance chateau, the adjacent parks and the large expanse of Lake Svět form a unique entity with a special local colour. Třeboň is famous for its traditional fish-breeding, for the excellent Regent beer. The local restaurant serves fish delicacies made from excellent ‘Třeboň carp’. The great variety of culinary events and the rich cultural programme are very popular with tourists as well as Czech sportsmen, frequent guests of the spa.

The town fortifications, preserved together with five gates and a few bastions, were protected by so-called Golden Canal and the lake Svět in the south. The Renaissance chateau, connected by a long corridor with the Rosenberg library and the complex of the Augustinian Monastery, is a significant architectural sight. The monastery complex includes a unique two-nave Church of St. Giles. The tower of the Early Baroque Town Hall is another dominant of the town.

The town centre features a large complex of burghers´ houses of various architectural styles. Třeboň and its environs, a biospherep reserve, has been included in the UNESCO list.

Es gibt Verbindung mit dem Bus und Zug von Prag, es dauert ca. 3 Stunden. Man muss in einer Stadt in der Nähe umsteigen, wie z.B. Veseli n.Luznici.

TREBON SCHLOSS

Das Schloss Třeboň gehört zu den grössten Schlosskomplexen in der Tschechischen Republik. Das Schloss wurde als die Residenz für eine bekannte böhmische Adelsfamilie, Rosenberg, im Renaissancestil ausgebaut. Eine andere aristokratisch Familie, die Schwarzenbergen, hat einige Barockgebäude ausgebaut. Es gibt drei Besichtigungsrouten - Die Renaissance-Interieur von Rosenbergfamilie, Die privaten Appartements von der Schwarzenbergen aus dem 19.Jahrhundert und die Ställen des Schlosses, die Küche und die Kasematten. Das Schlosskomplex ist mit schönem Park umgebaut.
